Unclipped and flaps have no wear. Jacket is very good. The author's first novel which he stated was an 'almost true story', the adventures in Southern England of a young man and the elephant which he inherits.

To volume 2 and 3 there is a little light foxing to the end papers and front matter. One fold-out colour illustration in volume 3 has a creased leading edge and is deckled.
