Hardcover. Condition: new. During Mardi Gras 1973, Stewart Butler (1930-2020) fell in love with Alfred Doolittle-a wealthy socialite and schizophrenic from San Francisco. Their relationship was an improbable love story that changed the course of LGBTQ+ history. With Doolittles money, Butler was able to retire and devote his life to political activism in the cause of queer liberation. A survivor of the horrific Up Stairs Lounge arson, Butler was a founding member of the first statewide lesbian and gay rights organization in Louisiana and an early champion for transgender rights, playing a key role in the eight-year struggle to persuade PFLAG to become the first national LGBTQ+ organization to include trans people in its mission statement. In Political Animal: The Life and Times of Stewart Butler, author Frank Perez traces Butlers amazing life from his early childhood in Depression-era New Orleans, his adolescence at Carville where his father worked, his first unsuccessful attempt at college, his time in the army as a closeted gay man, his adventures in Alaska, his transformation into a hippie in the 1960s, his love affair with Doolittle, his decades as a gay rights advocate, and ultimately, his twilight years as an elder statesman.Based on Butler's own personal papers, including hundreds of letters, and dozens of interviews, Political Animal paints an intimate portrait of a legendary figure in gay politics and the times in which he lived.

Magazine / Periodical
Soft cover. Condition: Fine. Frank Brunner, Rico Rival, Bruce Jones, Rick Bryant, George Perez, Mike Kaluta (illustrator). The 1975 follow-up to Marvel Comics' ill-fated Worlds Unknown, Unknown Worlds of Science Fiction picked up where its predecessor left off. Packaged in the much more flattering $1 black and white magazine format, the bimonthly publication contained a number of self contained stories (approximately 10 per issue) revolving around one central theme: science fiction. Each issue was crafted by some of the genre's greatest writers. Names like Harlan Ellison, Roger Zelazny and "Chip" Delany frequented the pages within. While Magazine Management Co. published the periodical, the "Stan Lee presents:" found on the book's title page was a telling sign as to the true backer behind the project. Losing out to the spandex clad, super-hero saturated market, some of the greatest names to come out of the House of Ideas?i.e. John Romita, Chris Claremont and Tony Isabella?lent their talent's to the publication. Magazine is bagged & boarded and will be carefully / securely packaged then shipped via USPS Priority Mail to ensure that it arrives to you perfectly and quickly. Collectible Entertainment note: Magazine is in Fine to Very Fine condition. Beautiful! Please See Scans!!! A must have for any serious Science Fiction collector and/or enthusiast. A fun & entertaining read. Very Highly Recommended.
