Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Franklin, Olga. Born twice. First edition. London: Peter Garnett, 1951. Hardback, VG in fair dustjacket, price-clipped. DJ has shelfwear to all edges, small tears to front and back and small portions missing from top and bottom of spine; the white section on the back is tanned with age. Black cloth with silver lettering to spine; covers slightly bumped at corners. Binding strong and tight. Fep has a Christmas gift inscription from 1954 and the stamp of a previous bookseller. 180pp., contents clean and bright. Born in 1912, Olga led an unconventional life outside the office. Her first husband, Norbert Franklin, died when she was just 25, and after a breakdown and suicide attempt, she found happiness in her early 40s in the arms of a married businessman, Alfred Womersley. That relationship lasted more than 30 years, though A never did leave his wife. Throughout World War II, Olga worked as a clerk but yearned to be a journalist. In 1944, after a spell as a typist at Reuters, Olga got her break on the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, which was owned by newspaper magnate Viscount Kemsley. From there she moved on to the Daily Sketch and then the Daily Mail. This is her autobiography. RightWayUp Books aims to provide accurate and detailed descriptions.
