Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Not a book but a 10-inch, 33-1/3 rpm "Microgroove Unbreakable Long Play" (mono) vinyl record album, Coral CRL 56005. near-mint vinyl in a "very good" cardboard jacket which is split to both top and bottom edges. Jacket verso advertises that these eight "Blues Fox Trots" were also still available as of the 1950 release date as a set of four 78s, "Package CP-509." Herman "and his Orchestra" (the Thundering Herd -- along with many other expensive Big Bands -- disbanded in 1946, though Hal Webman's jacket notes here report these cuts were actually recorded "between 1939 and 1941") offer eight cuts with "Blues" in the title. "Dupree Blues" is credited to "White," though in fact "Dupree Blues" was almost certainly by Blind Willie Walker; Georgia White's song is usually listed as "New Dupree Blues." Herman, best known as a singer and clarinet-player, here offers a couple of solos on alto sax on "Blues on Parade." Arranger Joe Bishop (whose "Blue Prelude" is also offered here) on flugelhorn. This jazz LP catalogs $70; now reduced from $35.
