Cloth. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. William Stobbs (illustrator). First Edition. Hardback. First Edition. Ex-library with ex-library markings. Dye to top edge. Wear and tear to D/J. In this book the author brings to life eighteen of the most important battles to be fought on British soil. Ranging in time from 1066, the years of the battles of Stamford Bridge and Hastings, to 1746, when Bonny prince Charlie was defeated at Culloden, and in place from all parts of England to Bannockburn in Scotland and the Boyne in ireland, these battles were all fought for the same end - the crown. Basing his acocunt on authentic records, the author gives historical perspective to each battle by outling the events leading up to it and by introducing the leading personalities on either side. He then provides a close-up of the fighting itself, describing the terrain and reconstructing the scene with such accuracy that a visitor to any of the battlefields should be able to picture for himself the exact disposition of the opposing forces and their manoeuvres during the course of the engagement. The author's stirring, clear and historically accurate descriptions of the battles are complemented by the numerous drawings and maps which have been specially prepared for the book by William Stobbs. Illustrations and Maps. 208 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
