Barbara E. Barber is the author of poetry that has appeared in The New York Daily News, The Writer, and Midwest Poetry Review. She lives in New York City.

Anna Rich has provided illustrations for national magazines and newspapers. She has wanted to be an illustrator since she was in high school. Ms. Rich attended the Rhode Island School of Design and works for the Graphic Artists Guild. She resides in Elmont, New York.

PreSchool-2?An expressively written and beautifully illustrated story of a young African American girl's special Saturdays spent with her mother at The New You Beauty Parlor. The shop is set up for business, and the day unfolds to the wonderful smells of sweet peach shampoo, strawberry conditioner, and fresh coffee. Customers share laughter, chocolate-chip cookies, jelly donuts, and sweet-potato pies. Some enjoy napping while sitting under the dryer. As the day ends, Shauna sits down with her dolls and her comb and works on her "customers." The first-person narration mirrors the myriad activities of the shop and the child's enthusiasm about spending her day there.
