Mexico's Colonial Heart - Softcover

The author, a lively character who bills himself as "Mexico" Mike, writes guidebook material for Sanborn, the company that insures so many foreign drivers in Mexico. His book covers inland central Mexico, including Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Guanajuato. It begins with general advice on driving in Mexico (avoid night driving because donkeys don't have taillights) and downplays its frustrations and risks. The majority of the book consists of detailed logs of routes noting directions and sights by milepost, and there are some recommendations for restaurants and lodging. Nelson's writing is amusing and personal, though some readers may weary of his tales of ex-wives and alcoholism.
