From School Library Journal:
Grade 3-6?This brief introduction to the special powers and behaviors of mythical and legendary heroes provides the background for the focus on modern characters such as Tarzan, Indiana Jones, James Bond, Batman, Superman, Ninja Turtles, the Terminator, and Robocop. The nonlinear format combines black-and-white and full-color photographs, movie stills, comics, and animation with bold headlines and explanatory vignettes to catch the attention of visually grounded young people. There are limited references to ancient and modern female heroes; Wonder Woman, where are you? There is no pretense about this book being literature: readers know exactly what's within when they read the "WILDEST! WACKIEST! WEIRDEST! Legends, movie heroes, computer stars, and lots, lots more!" along the bottom of the front cover. Though the format is cluttered and the art is garish, comic-book lovers and pop-culture addicts will be delighted with Super Heroes.?Gale W. Sherman, Pocatello Public Library, ID
