"I was twelve years of age when I chopped off my hair, dressed as a boy, and set off to save my family from impending ruin. I made it almost to the end of my front garden . . ." Magic may be the greatest scandal in Regency England. But that's not going to stop Kat Stephenson when there are highwaymen to foil, sinister aristocrats to defeat . . . and true loves to capture for her two older sisters.

About the Author:
Stephanie Burgis grew up in East Lansing, Michigan, but fell in love with Regency England when she discovered the novels of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer. Her book A MOST IMPROPER MAGICK won the Waverton Good Read Children's Award. It was also chosen by Booktrust for its 2012 Bookbuzz book-gifting scheme for Year 7 students across the UK. In addition, it was longlisted for the Branford Boase Award and for the British Fantasy Award for Best Fantasy Novel. Stephanie decided to be a writer when she was seven and sold her first short story when she was fifteen. She lives with her husband - fellow writer Patrick Samphire - their son, and their dog in Wales. Visit her at www.stephanieburgis.com or on Twitter: @stephanieburgis.
Review:
I loved the dynamics between Kat and her sisters. It added to the realness of the story and made it all the more funny ... anyone who enjoys a fast-paced novel full of magic should read this book * Guardian Onine * "a treat of a book. Packed with magic, mischief and peril, it's a good old fashioned yarn with a 21st century heroine." * Iwasateenagebookgeek.blogspot.com * "the very first sentence of this charming and funny book sets the tone ... this is an excellent book and as it is the first of trilogy, there is the promise of more reading pleasure to come". * Thebookbag.co.uk * Heartwarming, magical and full of adventure. I loved this book!. * Chicklish at keris.typepad.com * An exciting book for readers in the 10+ age group. A well thought out structure for its magical world" * Midleton and Fermoy Booksellers * "The book is not stuffy Regency but easy to read modern style ... a hugely fun and easy read that will have its young readers coming back for more". * Ourbookreviewsonline.blogspot.com * ... "amusing and exciting first instalment of the Unladylike Adventures of Kt Stephenson" * School Library Journal * "her story is a refreshing and exciting tale of society with a twist ... well written with humour, adventure and style as well as a flowing prose that I can see quickly becoming a must read for young ladies and a popular series of books". * Armadillo Magazine * "A blend of What Katy Did? And Pride and Prejudice, this book manages to appeal to a modern reader. Burgis has written a winning formula and I am sure the next two instalments will be eagerly awaited". * www.writeaway.org.uk * "A lively, fast-moving story with a high spirited, adventurous heroine ... historical fiction's answer to the ever-popular chick lit. A delightful romp through Regency England; girls of 10+ should love it." * HNR Issue 54 * "SB's debut novel is a more substantial foray into the regency world of Austen and Heyer than that of Meg Cabot; albeit with elements of J K Rowling thrown in for good measure .... An amusing and exciting first instalment" * The School Librarian *
