Three Tales - Hardcover

This small, neat, hardback book of three stories by a master story-teller has a good feel in the hand and is likely to appeal to children who enjoy folk-style tales that are original and unusual. The black and white illustrations (possibly block prints), one for each story, are charming and full of detail, and altogether the production will be enjoyed by adults as well as children. The three beautifully written tales involve a pianist whose hands are jealous of each others talents and so decide to change jobs; a doll who gets lost in a field and comes across a friendly scarecrow who helps her to be unafraid; and a village that becomes dependent on the resident giant (somewhat political, this one!). Great creativity and freshness are apparent in both pictures and text, even when the giant has to be brought down to earth literally! The thought-provoking nature of these stories makes them ideal for use in schools as an aid to discussion. A unique little book with great potential.
