Richard Jeffrey Newman's collection of poems, Words for What Those Men Have Done, continues the exploration he began in The Silence of Men of how surviving childhood sexual violence has shaped his life as a man. Where The Silence of Men focused on ending the silence in which the men who violated him tried to force him to live, Words for What Those Men Have Done is animated by this question: What has it meant for him to commit himself as a man never to standing on the same side of gender and sexual politics as those men?

As a poet and essayist, Richard Jeffrey Newman's work explores the impact of feminism on his life as a man. As a co-translator of classical Persian poetry, he writes about the impact of that canon on our contemporary lives. His most recent books are For My Son, A Kind of Prayer (Ghostbird Press 2016) and the translation The Teller of Tales: Stories from Ferdowsi's Shahnameh (Junction Press 2011). He is also the author of The Silence of Men (Cavankerry Press 2006). His poems, essays, and translations have appeared in a wide range of publications.
