Run, Bong-Gu, Run! - Softcover
A kid and his mother, in Seoul from a small seaside town to find his long lost father. From desperation, the outcome of this story, however, will bring warmth to any heart, showing that the hope and love of humanity can even melt the cold indifference of our urban societies. A beautifully, poetically illustrated little manhwa lit.

From Booklist:
Little Bong-Gu and his mother come from their island home to Seoul to find his father, in the capital to make money but unheard from during the past six months. On the subway, they see an old beggar, who later joins the little girl Bong-Gu plays with while mother uses the phone. The man is the girl's grandfather, and the two have been homeless since her mother left the city some time ago. The old man helps Bong-Gu's mother find her way around Seoul, and eventually there is a happy ending for all. Working in the manner of older comics artist O Seyeong (Buja's Diary, 2005), Byun poses mildly caricatural figures against painstakingly realistic backdrops (based on photographs) in a story of poor people in the big city that resembles Italian neorealist film classics The Bicycle Thief and Shoeshine. Byun's work is lighter in tone, however, because of the ending and also Byun's strategic use of watercolor to suggest a greater world that is hospitable to all. Lovely. Olson, Ray
