From Library Journal:
Greenberg's new book ( I Never Promised You a Rose Garden) contains the title novella and a baker's dozen short stories, some previously published in magazines. Varying widely in theme and setting, all show Greenberg's characteristically deft touch with her characters. The title story deals with time travel and a woman who is allowed to relive her life. The reader, powerfully engaged by the protagonist's feelings, is left with questions that echo in the mind long after the page is turned. Two stories deal provocatively with the relationship between an author and the characters he/she creates, while "Like a Native" focuses on the gulf between the hearing and the deaf. Greenberg excels at picking moments out of everyday life and illuminating them with unexpected comparisons or a unique point of view. Emotional and compassionate, these should appeal to all who have enjoyed Green berg's previous work. Previewed in Pre pub Alert, LJ 12/90.

From School Library Journal:
YA-- An ideal collection of short stories for adolescents. Greenberg's narrative style is straightforward and fast moving; each selection covers a lot of ground but also has an unusual angle or plot twist. It should come as no surprise that Greenberg, author of that teenage favorite, I Never Promised You a Rose Garden (NAL, 1989), emphasizes psychological motives here. Beginning with the title piece, a sci/fi tale about a woman with a unique double life, the stories take up, one after the other, questions of personal identity and human relationships. YA readers are sure to find this collection easy to read and intensely thought provoking. --Marya Andreen, R. E. Lee High School, Springfield, VA
