A scholarly treatment of the design and building of this church in Philadelphia. On this site the first church was begun in 1698. The new church comprised a first campaign from 1727 to 1732 and a second campaign to rebuild it in 1735-1740. Details include the fitting out of the interior, the steeple (1753) and details of the stone-carver's art, early illustrations, the churchyard and its enclosure, the great organ, and mid-century changes (1850s). Work on the church in the last 100 years is included, including after a lightening strike in 1908. Photos and descriptions of early furnishings, and discoveries about specific timber framing and other building details are included.
