Knitting is big now, but neophytes who don't have a friend or relative to teach them may be lost at first. Although this entry in the Vanessa-Ann Collection doesn't substitute for personal instruction, its attractiveness and clarity make it an excellent adjunct. Beginning with explanations of the various types of yarns, the text leads off with other important basics, such as how to read a pattern, how to fix mistakes, and how to finish a garment.
