Against the backdrop of a revolution in college sports paying athletes to play a family conflict emerges that is just as poignant and upsetting as any Saturday afternoon football rivalry. Eddie Williams, the father of three immensely talented football sons and one estranged daughter is found dead in a media trailer outside U of M stadium the day of the clash with Michigan State. That same day, college athletes from both teams stage a strike, wanting to make themselves heard: No Pay, No Play. In the aftermath of the event, a variety of suspects emerge, including university personnel, athletic directors, and even personnel from another power football program. Once again, Lou Searing unravels the case, only to discover that even murder can rear its ugly head at one of the largest football arenas in the country.
