Kindergarten-Grade 2-- Mortimer's mother is a TV reporter. His father, a writer, stays home with Mortimer and constantly embarrasses him. The man crawls around on all fours at the swimming pool, runs the wrong way when he plays football, and it's so hard to get him out of bed in the morning that Mortimer is often late for school. His humiliation at his father's childlike behavior comes to an end when Dad wins first prize in a baking contest at school. This attractive book has large-print text and colorful watercolor cartoons on every page.
