Review:
The art of marbling, the author informs us, has general guidelines but no fixed rules. With clarity and humor, she proves extremely adept at explaining the basics (equipment, general how-tos, getting a feel for the process) and provides concise step-by-step instructions for mastering each of 15 traditional patterns. Once you tire of simply gazing in admiration at your work (even relatively simple beginnings seem to produce very complex patterns), turn to the project sections for suggestions on how to utilize your marbleized paper or fabric. Though the finished projects seen here are not nearly as stunning as the marbled patterns themselves, they do offer a jumping-off point for your own adaptations.
