Reeling from a painful divorce to a wealthy Wall Street stockbroker, beautiful Leonie Corinth decides to start her life over. She moves to the Hudson River Valley with only a small amount of money. Using her impeccable taste, she plans to buy old, dilapidated houses, fix them up and decorate them, then sell them to rich New Yorkers. Supported emotionally by her sassy real-estate agent and best friend, Mossy, she takes on the arduous task of renovating an ancient octagon-shaped house. Leonie chooses handsome Sam Nicholson as her architect on the project because he shares her vision. As they restore the mansion to its former beauty, Leonie and Sam fall in love with its unusual charms and with each other. This novel has all the right components: romance, a beautiful setting, deceit, and strong-willed, independent characters. Although it can be a bit predictable at times and the ending is a little too convenient, it is well written and a great book in which to lose oneself. Alexandra Baker
