Amber Stewart spent her early childhood in London and moved to rural Dorset as a teenager. She graduated from University College London with a degree in Russian and began an ongoing career in children's book publishing. Amber commutes daily to London from an old farmhouse in Buckinghamshire where she lives with her husband, two children and a menagerie of ponies, cats and dogs. Layn Marlow grew up in Essex. After studying history of art at Reading University, Layn began her career working in libraries. She lived in Belgium for several years but it was on her return to the UK that she enrolled as a mature student at Southampton University and received a first class degree in illustration. Layn now lives in Hampshire with her husband, two children, a hamster and a goldfish. For relaxation she loves listening to the radio, knitting and karate! Jan Ormerod was born in Australia and as a child divided her time between standing on her head, reading and drawing. She trained as a designer, and worked as a teacher in schools, teachers' colleges and art schools until the birth of her first daughter, when she began to write and illustrate children's books. Her first picture book, Sunshine (1981), won the Mother Goose Award and the Australian Picture Book of the Year, and was also listed as an American Library Association Notable Book in the USA. It was republished by Frances Lincoln Children's Books in 2004. Jan has illustrated over 60 picture books, won many honours and awards, and is published in 21 countries. Lindsey Gardiner graduated in Printed Textiles in 1996 and went on to do an MA at Winchester School of Art. She works from her studio in a former jute mill in Dundee which she shares with her high-maintenance but lovable dogs, Lola and Yuki. Lindsey is also a part-time teacher in textiles at the art college in Dundee. Sheryl Webster lives in Liverpool with her husband and four children. Having completed a degree in English and psychology she enjoyed working as a primary school teacher before taking a career break to bring up her young family. This also allowed more time for writing. What Small Rabbit Heard was written following a very windy walk with her family and some humorous exchanges as they struggled to hear each other! Award-winning illustrator Tim Warnes shares a studio at his home in the Dorset countryside with his wife, illustrator Jane Chapman. They have two young sons. Tim is best known for illustrating the Little Tiger and Santa books for Little Tiger Press. I Don't Want to go to Bed! won the Nottinghamshire Children's Book Award in 1996 and I Don't want to have a Bath! won in 1997. Scaredy Mouse was commended in the Sheffield Children's Book Awards 2003. Charlotte Middleton grew up in a village in the Cotswolds. As a child she owned various guinea pigs and they kept sections of her parents' garden lawn very well trimmed with their nibbling. Those childhood guinea pigs are the inspiration for Christopher Nibble! At school, Charlotte loved drawing and would regularly illustrate her spelling and times tables test papers. She went on to study graphic art and illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. Her stories have been sold all over the world and Charlotte would love to be as well-travelled as her books one day. Charlotte's home is now in South Gloucestershire and she shares it with her husband and baby daughter.
